8:09pm: The not particularly controversial survey
1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Yes. *controversial!*

2. Would you do meth if it was legal?
No.

3. Abortion: for or against it?
Pro-choice. I guess that's for it?

4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
No.

5. Do you believe in the death penalty?
No. Under no circumstances.

6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
No, I don't wish for that, since I dont smoke it, but I dont really care either way.

7. Are you for or against premarital sex?
Fer it.

8. Do you believe in God?
No

9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yes.

10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
I'm not sure, are they stealing our jobs and our women? Don't really mind.

11. A twelve-year-old girl has a baby - should she keep it?
No.

12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Well, it already is here in Aus, I dont think it should be lowered any further...

13. Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes, due to lack of interest. But failing our ability to just call off a war which already happened, I'd like to see the withdrawal of troops as quickly as possible, and I certainly dont believe we (australians or americans) should have gone in in the first place.

14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
These questions sound like they were written by a 10 year old. I agree that it is illegal. I just dont think it should be.

15. Do you believe in spanking your children?
I was spanked as a kid, and I turned out all right, but I also think that a lot of times it puts the message into kids heads that problems can be solved with violence, and also, if parents are prone to spanking their kids, further violence is a small step away. So I wouldnt do it myself.

16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Hell yes. And an Australian one too. You know why? Because when I burn the flag, I'm not making the statement, "I hate this flag", or the statement "I hate my country", I'm making the statement "Where's my million dollars, bitch?" And if you choose to interpret it as insulting the flag or country, thats your problem - I'll be over here with my million dollars...

17. Who do you think would make a better president: McCain or Obama?
Obama. ObamaObamaObamaObamaObama.

18. Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No. If someone wants to ask some more controversial questions, you can feel free...

10:18pm: I'm never going to see my xbox again, am I?
so TNA Impact and Mercs 2 both came out this week. I was just going to get one, but JBs had them for $80 each, and I had the money I won from the footy tipping comp, so I got them both.

Which is essentially moot, because Viva Pinata 2 also came out, and it was only $60, and so Michelle bought that, and I will never see my xbox again :>

7:08pm: there are some who say that noone should ever cover Nirvana.
Those people are DEAD WRONG

OTOH I am yet to hear a good Radiohead cover.

11:39pm: Do I want the Saints Row 2 Initiation Pack?

31st August 2008

4:27pm: da internet, without wires?
for the past month or so our modem has just locked up and refused to download, which then causes the comp to lose its IP address (for the love of god, why does vista have a one hour lease on its ip address?) and various nasty things to happen...

so i got sick of it, and bought a new modem, Netcomm NB6+4W, basically a model up from the one we had, plus the new one has wireless.

So I'm posting from the loungeroom, seeing how long the battery will last before i have to bring out the power cord.

also we now have wii on the network, althgouh i'm not sure why, we dont own any network compat games, and the wii friends system is diabolical mixed with pure insanity.

afl-tipping-wise, i've recovered from a horror start to be 4 from 7. if stkilda beat essendon, i'll get 5, which means the only way I can lose top spot is if the second place person gets a perfect round, and the only way she could do that is if she just made it up willynilly because NOONE could deliberately pick fremantle and portadelaide to beat collingwood and north melbourne.

anyway, back to fasterlouder work...

11:51pm: facebook may just be worth it for Flixster, and Flixster worth it just to see the crap answers people give on the never ending movie quiz

Correct. 10 points.
" ***In Which Film Does John Travolta Get Shot Whilst Coming Out of the Toilet***"

* Battlefield Earth (6%)
* Saturday Night Fever (6%)
* Michael (5%)
* Pulp Fiction (74%)
* Look Who's Talking (6%)

Thats right folks. 6% of people think that John Travolta gets shot coming out of the toilet in Look Who's Talking. They mustve seen a different version to the one I saw.

11:22pm: *sigh*
so i signed up to facebook - add me bitches! Liam McGinniss

i scanned through my graduating class from high school, and I reckon about 50% of the women are holding their children in their user photos - *sigh* still, me and my graduating class are rapidly approaching 30, so i guess its not such a big surprise.

its been a long week, although im not sure why.

ALSO - Poker this Saturday night at our place, come one come all.

very simple poll, no push-polling, no vote stacking, yes or no?

bought a 120GB hard drive for my xbox, i got sick of having to delete stuff every time i wanted to download stuff,

the big month for games is nearly upon us, but im commited to my Japan-saving, and if I cant afford these games the moment they come out, well so be it.

Im in the lead in the AFL tipping competition at work by 2 points going into the final round, i can feel impending doom around the corner.

ive also been playing HEAPS of civilisation revolution, its ridiculously easy on base level, but im too scared to go up a level, so i keep slaughtering everyone all the time.

anyway i should sleep.

11:06pm: i can handle internet throttling, but for 10 days? thats just not right.

this weekend is crazy busy in brisbane music, starting from tonights Panic! At the disco gig and working through to sunday, we've got reviewers and shooters covering 8-9 gigs. crazy!

speaking of panic, our shooter said she got rid of all of her FL cards and did all her social shots ridiculously easily/early. ahaha emo kids, they all wanna be on our website :>

friday is Death Cab For Cutie, these guys blew me away at splendour last year or the year before, so this show promises to be amazing. Plus An Horse, who are always good value.

michelle and i are thinking of tripping to japan next year, so ive started saving now, which is why its good that the A06 happened.

plus, if i dont end up getting the previously mentioned Blackberry Bold, I'll prolly get the Nokia E71. Looks cool, decent price, $49 cap for $350 worth of calls, plus $20 a month for a 2gb data plan. When we were at the 3 shop the other day, the guy asked me what data plan i'd use, and i said prolly the 2gb one, and he got all shocked and said "wow, you must be a really hardcore user, huh!". I just said yes, but the correct response would have been, "the next plan down is $12 a month for 120MB, what do you think I'm going to do, numbskull?

we started watching Damages tonight on dvd, its nice to just sit back and watch a good not great show without a lot of hubbub and fandom around it, that is less interested in shock value than just telling a cool story. as much as i love the wire and the shield and weeds and the like, watching them and staying up to date and keeping in line can be exhausting.

speaking of exhausting, managing the fasterlouder content system through a throttled internet is exactly that, so im going to bed.

12:15am: Silverchair and Movies
arguing with Silverchair fanboys is both fun and easy.

Because "Anthem For The Year 2000" is the ultimate unbeatable trump card against any claim to musical genius.

JBs are having a movie sale, 3 movies for $26 (its buy 2 get 1 free, and all the movies in the sale are $13), and KMart is having one at the same time. At Kamrt on Wednesday, Michelle bought:
Once Upon A Time In The West
Jarhead
Traffic

So I backed that up at JBs, and got
The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
Harsh Times
Sweeney Todd

We were at JBs chermside, and i thought the range they had there was a little limited, so I went into the city one today, and it turns out I was right, the city store has nearly twice the range of the chermside one, so I got
Day Watch
Stranger Than Fiction
Shoot 'Em Up

And I might back that up with another trick in the next week or so, if my FasterLouder invoice goes through, because I still want to get Shawn Of The Dead, and maybe Fracture, and there were a few others I was thinking about.

It's such a good sale, normally these types of sales only have crap films, but this one's got such great titles, I also think it helps that I havent been going to the movies as much over the past 2 years, because I'm always doing music stuff instead...

Meanwhile, the new David Mamet film, Redbelt) finally came out in Australia - in one cinema. In Melbourne. Fucking arseholes, whats the point of even releasing it? I've been waiting for this film for ages, this shits me to tears...

What a downer way to end the entry, I started out all happy, and now ive brought myself down.

13th August 2008

9:40am: i do like public holidays
i like having a public holiday in the middle of the week, it breaks up the week in just the right way.

even if i have to spend the next four hours or so doing fasterlouder work. Still, that includes an interview with a member of The Herd, so it's not all bad :>

Thanks to those who came to the bbq last night, after a rocky start, i think everyone enjoyed their food, and mocking the olympics with the sound turned off. it's all good!

I found out yesterday that I got the A06, but only just. They said that in a way that suggested they expected me to be better, I couldnt be bothered pointing out that I've only been doing this kind of web work for 8 months, so to be qualified enough to do a senior position is still pretty good. Still, I'm probably going to need to knuckle down a bit at work, while I was acting in the job the last couple of months I was just sort of floating, doing whatever came up. I'm going to need to take a bit more initiative, stamp my own personality on the role.

anyway, this entry is procrastinating from FL work, so I'd better get back to it.

7th August 2008

11:28pm: okay,
sometimes i cant think why i have this journal, then things happen, and i post em, cos i figure, maybe you're all out there reading, or skimming, or whatever...

anyway, the point is i got back into sport this week, after a couple of weeks off with the previously mentioned flu. i had personal trainer on tuesday afternoon, and then squash on tuesday night. both went fine, i was feeling pretty good about myself, went to bed tuesday night, and woke up around 4am with my left leg in pain right from the top to the bottom, knee, ankle, hip, the lot.

i couldnt get back to sleep, so when 7:30 rolled around, i headed to the doctor, who told me ive torn my hamstring, at the top where it joins the waist, and simultaneously damaged my left knee, possibly some meniscus damage.

he prescribed painkillers and anti-inflammatories for the hip, and nothing for the knee, we have to wait till things calm down a little, and if its still hurting, i may need some physio, or an arthroscopy, which ive had on that knee before, and didnt enjoy one little bit.

but two days later, its feeling a lot better, still sore, but at least not sore when im keeping it perfectly still, just when i move it, walk on it, etc, and the painkillers are lovely.

today i had a job interview for the A06 which Im acting in already, but i dont think i was particularly impressive. the problem was that it is a slightly technical, web-related position, and the three people on the panel were extremely non-tech, extremely non-web people, which seems kinda silly to me. At one stage I started talking about Header Includes, as an example of a hard problem which id solved, and I had to dum down the description so much, it sounds like I figured out how to type a text file, and STILL their eyes glazed over.

Oh well, will see how that goes.

Pineapple Express is still going ahead tomorrow night, as is Poker on Saturday night, drop me an email or text for more details, as I cant do lj commenting at work...

how did none of you show this to me?

5:45pm: SWEET!
I've been looking at getting a PDA for a while, I've been looking mostly at Blackberrys, because the other ones seem too gimmicky, or not enough providers sell them to make the prices competitive. 3 has had the best plan so far, with the pda coming free if you go for the 24 month contract, but it was an older model.

But this was launched in Australia today, and will be on sale from various providers towards the end of the year, so I think I'll wait and get it when it comes out.

mmm, shiny...

6:29pm: stuff
okay, so ive now been inside for 7 days straight. i had the flu last week, and it just wouldnt go away, and my hippie doctor wouldnt prescribe any medicine, just lots of fluids and sleep. which i did for 6 days, and was yet to get better,

so i head along again today, and a different doctor says, "yep, you're on the verge of sinusitis, (which i've had before, and it's no fucking fun, basically, for those who havent had it, your sinuses (on either side of your nose and your forehead) feel like they're on fire, all the time, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it) - you'ld better take some medicine"

AWESOME. So now I'm swallowing giant fucking pills, which I hate doing, and hoping I can go back to work tomorrow, because I've beeen on unpaid leave for about 4 days now, and I'm going to need to get back to being paid soon.

Also, my review of The Grates album is up.

12:05am: *SIGH*
We're off to see Dark Knight on Sunday at Gold Class. Until that time, I'd ask you to avoid spoilers. And I don't mean the whole "This is what happens in the final scene spoilers", I mean ANYTHING, to do with plots, characters, etc, PLEASE put it behind a cut. I can't fucking stand people who will gleefully outlay the whole plot, and then claim the defence of "I didnt tell you how it ends!". I dont fucking care, I dont wanna know anything. If you're planning on posting large, uncut segments of the plot, let me know now, so I can defriend you in advance.

Of course, the movie might not be so good after all, if this "report" is to be believed.

http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story/0,26278,24029281-7485,00.html

Summary : I'm a scared little girl, and batman is big and scary, so I walked out. Also, this M-rated film isn't for 8 year olds. REALLY???

Congratulations, News.com.au, you sent along a small, whiney little girl trapped in a woman's body to the premiere of one of the best films of the year.

In this day and age, there's no excuse for not doing a little research on movies you're going to see, and it doesn't take a lot of research to discover that CHRISTOPHER FUCKING NOLAN DOES NOT MAKE FILMS FOR FUCKING EIGHT YEAR OLDS!

This week is really shitting me. I'm *this close* to handing in my notice at work and getting a job as an A04 web monkey with zero responsibility.

12:34am: sweet!
got my group certificates, chucked some numbers into a tax calculator, and it says I owe 800 dollars.

Which is fine, because, anticipating a debt, I'd been putting money aside from my FasterLouder money, and Michelle reckons I've got about 1400 put aside, which basically turns an 800 dollar debt into a 600 dollar refund.

so, should I spend it on a puppy, a PDA, or keep it on the homeloan, which would be good for Michelle's stress (the frequent rate rises stress her out more than me)

Oo, also, been writing some stuff lately :

11th July 2008

His name is David Ford, he's got stuff all over youtube, this is Go To Hell, but also check out State Of The Union, which I'm pretty sure i've linked you to before...

12:19am: Another video post? Is he crazy?
a while ago I picked up a movie called Idiocracy, its basically a satire where Luke Wilson is in a hibernation program and wakes up 1000 years later to find that the entire world has become completely stupid, and he is, by default, the smartest person in the world.

anyway, it's by Mike Judge, so it's a bit hit and miss, and some of the comedy is a bit dumb, but there are some moments of gold.

(for the record, Brondo is a sports drink, like Powerade, and the people he's sitting with are the senior staff at the white house, minister for defence, chief of staff, etc.)

gold.
